On December 7th, the 2023 World New Energy Vehicle Conference, co-hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology, Hainan Provincial People's Government, Ministry of Science and Technology, and Ministry of Ecology and Environment, opened in Haikou, Hainan.

 

Under the theme of "Openness, Inclusiveness, Cooperation, and Mutual Development," over 1,000 representatives from 23 countries and regions engaged in dialogue and exchange, addressing strategic and challenging issues in the industry to foster consensus and drive the high-quality development of the new energy vehicle sector.

 

At stand A10, integrated die casting technology solutions for large structural components of new energy vehicles were demonstrated. Covering areas such as the front compartment, rear compartment, and battery trays, these solutions contribute to achieving the "peak carbon and carbon neutrality" goals. The comprehensive upgrade in manufacturing processes aims at cost reduction, efficiency improvement, and the establishment of a robust green circular ecosystem.

Utilizing aluminum alloy for cost-effectiveness, high-pressure die casting proves more efficient. Substituting steel with aluminum reduces the weight of the body by approximately one-third. However, challenges like decreased weld seam performance and alloy surface oxidation affecting electrodes arise due to aluminum's high thermal conductivity and significant thermal expansion coefficients. High-pressure die casting, with its high efficiency and minimal part thickness, emerges as an efficient processing technique for aluminum alloys. Integrated die casting, based on high-pressure die casting, significantly reduces the number of production steps as internal connections within the components are not required. Moreover, the scrap material utilization rate reaches up to 90%, surpassing the 60%-70% range in stamping and welding of steel bodies.

 

The application of integrated die casting in automobiles can further expand. With adjustments in strength and elongation, die casting technology is envisioned to be employed in more structural and cover components beyond the body, including components for motors, battery casings, and other non-body parts.

 

In response to the comprehensive reshaping of industrial ecosystems and the expanding market demand, the market has witnessed the development and launch of 6,000T-16,000T large intelligent die-casting units. These units offer high technological maturity, intelligent manufacturing efficiency, and strong applicability for new energy vehicle large structural components. Collaborating with industry partners, the goal is to collectively build an open cooperative ecosystem, a green low-carbon ecosystem, and a cross-border integration ecosystem.

 

Facing the unprecedented century-old transformation of the global automotive industry, the new technological revolution, represented by integrated die casting technology, is driving a comprehensive restructuring of the automotive sector.
